A long time ago! About 1969 perhaps. Our next door neighbour had purchased a block of land in the next suburb to us. They were building a new home for their daughter.

“We’re looking for land fill” the neighbour said. Mum had been on to me to tidy my room so I had a good clean out! Mum and I emptied my junk with glee! Tossing it onto the block. We were very self righteous about how good we were!

A week later, on a terrible wet, windy and wild day, a council ranger knocked on the door. Illegal dumping! “It must be removed IMMEDIATELY or you will be fined. ” An old envelope with my address on it had set the Rangers on the quest to find this criminal.

Mum was furious. Drove me back to the crime scene! Refused to get out of the car and I spent the next two and a half hours collecting the sodden, muddy, horrible ” fill” back into the car.

Pouring rain of almost flood like proportion, had made my self made mini pink and white poplin frock transparent. My white knickers and bra accessorised perfectly with my “frock”!

We avoided the fine!
